Vancouver pet companies launch donation event to gather necessities for 12 local rescues this holiday season.
The holidays are a time for giving, and if you're looking for a way to give back to local pups in need this festive season, there's a donation event happening right now designed to do just that.
Three Vancouver based pet companies who were negatively impacted by the pandemic have teamed up to launch a donation event to help local rescue organizations facing tough challenges due to COVID-19.
The 12 Days of Giving event will run until 20 December 2020, and has chosen 12 animal rescue organizations in the Lower Mainland to receive all the pet necessaries gathered during this time,
The idea behind The 12 Days of Giving for 12 Local Rescues event, launched by The Pawsitive Collection, Global Pet Foods and Floofy Studios, is to give back to the community, while also thanking locals for supporting small businesses during this difficult time.
The pandemic has had a significant financial impact on many not for profit animal organizations, as a large number of local rescues rely heavily on in-person fundraising events and Alex, founder of The Pawsitive Collection, hopes these donations will go some way to helping during this difficult time.
"It's tough times right now, and I can only imagine what these rescues are going through. Not everyone has the money to help donate to these rescues, and a lot of people have just lost their jobs or their loved ones, so a rescue is the last thing on their mind during this time. The least I can do is try to find supplies for these rescues," explains Alex.
"These shelters are always packed, packed, packed to the rim with neglected pets and do their very best to help provide these animals with the best care - and they're always in need of supplies or monetary donations to help out with pet bills."
The 12 Lower Mainland rescue organizations that will receive these donations are:
1. RAPS Rescue
3. Hug A Bull
9. Rabbitats
How to Donate
The event, which will run until December 20, 2020, asks for items that are often laying around a pet owner's house, including items their dogs have grown out of or no longer need.
Donations needed include pet food, toys, food bowl, blankets, towels, beds, leashes, collars, nail clippers, kennels, brushes/combs, pee pads and any other pet necessaries, and can be dropped off at a donation box located at Global Pet Foods, 4293 Hastings St, Burnaby, BC V5C 2J5.
If you don't live in Vancouver, or the Lower Mainland, and still want to help out, pet owners can ship donations from anywhere in Canada to the above address.
The team behind the event will also be accepting monetary donations for the list of rescues involved.
"We will post these to the rescues that we’ll be helping out this holiday season," explains Alex. "If you would like to donate money, you can choose one or many of the rescues listed. This way, the donation can be made directly to the rescue."
